Cryptocurrency Mining Guide

This list reviews and recommends everything you need to start mining cryptocurrency. We've selected the best price/performance/resale ratio options where quality matters, and the lowest-priced value options for items that do not impact returns. Ethereum is becoming harder to mine, and mining functions for the coin will cease completely when it transitions to Proof-of-Stake, but there are many other established and up-and-coming coins that are and will continue to be profitable to mine for sometime, including Ubiq and Signatum. Take the time to do some research at the BitcoinTalk forums to determine what looks good. Use MSI Afterburner to tune your GPUs to reduce their power usage and overclock your memory for better performance. Services such as Golem.network and SONM.io will soon let you sell your processing power for additional revenue when mining for coins is no longer feasible. If you have any difficulties when you set up your mining rig, please contact us and we will help you troubleshoot. MintCell 6-Pack PCIe Ver 006C Risers

These are the adapters you will use to attach your video cards to the PCIe slots on your motherboard via the included USB cables. You must attach a 6-pin VGA power cable to each riser, along with the cables that the video card itself requires. Avoid using the included SATA adapters if possible, especially with AMD GPUs that draw over 150W, as those cables are not designed for high power transmission. You can also buy individual risers, or packs of 2, 4 and 5.

MintCell 6-Pack PCIe Ver 006 Risers

The difference between the 006 and the 006C 6-packs is that the power connectors for the 006 risers are MOLEX rather than VGA. To be safe, only attach 2 risers per MOLEX cable max. Again, avoid the SATA adapters, but if you are short on cables, you can get away with attaching 1 single riser to a SATA cable via the included adapter, but never use them with an AMD 480/580 or Nvidia 1080ti GPU. Mix and match the v 006 and v 006c before you resort to SATA adapters. You may be able to find risers on aliexpress.com for a lower price, but expect to wait a long time for shipping from China.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

The Nvidia 1060 is the entry-level mining GPU in 2017. You want a model with great heatsinks and fans to keep temperatures low, and quality Samsung or Micron memory that will handle Overclocks of 400-900MHz. You can undervolt and underclock the core on these cards to just above 1700MHz to minimize their power draw while maintaining Ethereum hash rates of 21-25Mh/s. EVGA.com has several models for sale directly on their website, with the SC Black being the best value; fancier models will not add much mining performance. The 3GB models of the 1060 are less powerful, but still good choices if you want to mine newer coins like Ubiq instead of Ether, since 3GB GPUs will only be able to mine Ether a few more months.

Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner

Claymore's miner is easy to set up to mine with both AMD and Nvidia brands of GPUs attached to one mining rig. It can also mine two coins at once! While your GPU's memory bears the load of mining Ether, the core will handle Decred, Siacoin, Lbry, or Pascal. This will increase the power draw and temperatures of your cards, but not to unsafe levels. Genoil Ethminer is a nice alternative, but it is difficult to find a reliable download online currently. Claymore makes mining programs for other coins, also. Visit the forum pages for Ubiq and Signatum to download programs to mine these coins instead of Ether.
